Intervention
Artlab, Buenos Aires, Argentina — December 2024. As part of the anniversary celebrations for Artlab in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Mettapana presented Errant Typographies during December 2024.
The work was exhibited as an interactive installation on a 12 × 3 meter canvas, transforming the space into a visual system sensitive to the presence and movement of the audience. The proposal drew a large turnout and established itself as one of the highlights of the program.
Errant Typographies implements generative algorithmic rules, reacting to the environment with an organicity that reminds us of biological processes in nature—what Mettapana calls biological algorithmic cells within the work.
This proposal offers a visual metaphor for the adaptability and resilience of language, human, and biological behavior. Particles group or disperse, showing how meanings can change according to context and interaction, yet they always tend to reorganize toward a habitual state, achieving a balance between the micro and the macro.
Concept
This work investigates typography conceived as layers at different depths: letter as a graphic symbol, ideogram, typographic design, cultural symbolism, and emotional connection.
